Cambridge student receives Gold Medal
On 9 June 2008, Panasonic Trust awardee Victoria Hickman travelled to
Panasonic UK Ltd’s headquarters in Bracknell to receive her gold medal from
the Trustees following the successful completion of her full time studies in
sustainability at the University of Cambridge.
Victoria was initially drawn to the environmental field when
making her choice for undergraduate study and subsequently
completed a course in Architecture and Environmental Design in
2004. Working within the Sustainability department of her local
county council and on a slum rehabilitation NGO programme in
India developed her interest in sustainability and international
development – an area which led her to undertake an MPhil in
Engineering and Sustainable Development at Cambridge University
in 2007 with the support of the Panasonic Trust.
After a spell working as an intern at the UN, Victoria is now conducting
PhD research into sustainable human settlements, urban infrastructure and
housing for developing communities.
